This Indian wedding in Philadelphia was a dream to photograph. The architecture of the city, the elegance of the venues, and the rich Hindu tradition were all amazing to pair together. I started photographing the wedding the day prior to the ceremony which included an open house style mendhi for friends and family to partake in, and a traditional Hindu puja with the groom and his family. While the ceremony and reception had hundreds of guests, the puja was much more intimate. I loved how the ceremony focused on the groom and his parents. This photo shows the father of the groom praying during the puja with all of the traditional and colorful elements in the background. This puja was held in the bride and groom's home in Philadelphia instead of inside a temple. A puja is a prayer ritual to one or more deities to celebrate a significant life event. Puja's can be done to commemorate the birth of a child as well as weddings. There are many variations to puja's depending on the region, tradition, and setting.
